In September, TLTA submitted a proposal to the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) seeking an increase in the Basic Premium Rate for Title Insurance. Following the submission of our proposal, a team made up of TLTA Officers, staff, legal counsel and experts participated in a series of informal public meetings with staff from TDI and the Office of Public Insurance Counsel (OPIC) to discuss our request for a rate increase.
The 2012-2013 year at TLTA is underway and I am excited to serve as your new President. I'd like to thank each of you who've volunteered to help this year and if you haven't volunteered yet, we still need you. Login to your TLTA profile at the TLTA website, click on the Volunteer Form and indicate your areas of expertise and the ways you'd like to participate. We'll contact you during the year to let you know how we can use your help.
I'd like to start by congratulating the inaugural class of TLTA's Alex H. Halff Leadership Academy, held earlier this month in Austin. At the two-day Academy, attendees learned about generational differences in the workplace, how to best work with people who have differing communication styles and how to become strong leaders with character. The group also had the chance to ask a panel of title industry veterans questions about the industry and leadership. You may view photos from the Academy here. The response to this event from young title professionals has been very positive and we look forward to seeing these folks become more involved and active with TLTA and watching their careers grow in our industry.
I hope you enjoyed your holiday season and the start of a new year! As we move forward into 2012, I want to thank everyone for their help and involvement in TLTA over the past year. Our association could not function without the many volunteer hours our members commit!
