In Memoriam: Jim Pitts

JANUARY 1, 1947 – JULY 20, 2024
Former state Rep. Jim Pitts, a Waxahachie resident who served as chief budget writer for the Texas House for close to a decade, passed away at the age of 77 on Saturday, July 20.

As an owner of Ellis County Title Company, Jim was an important industry advocate both during and after his time serving House District 10 from 1993 to 2015. He was chair of the Appropriations Committee for the majority of his last decade in office.

Leslie Midgley, CEO of the Texas Land Title Association, reflected on Jim's impact stating, "Jim Pitts was a dedicated public servant and respected leader in the Texas House of Representatives. He was known for his friendly, cheerful, yet very effective approach to getting things done. He was also one of us – a long-time, cherished member of our TLTA community and a huge champion for our causes over the years. We are deeply grateful for his purposeful life, his many contributions, and his friendship."

His presence was deeply valued within the TLTA community, and he will be greatly missed by his friends in the industry. A celebration of life service will be held at Nelson University on Wednesday, July 31. More details can be found here
