As my year as president of TLTA comes to a close, I remain humbled by the honor of serving you, our industry and our state’s booming real estate marketplace. For 114 years our association has worked to protect and strengthen our industry and the communities we serve, and I’ve had the opportunity to see that legacy from a unique perspective over the past 12 months. It’s been quite a journey, and I have a new appreciation for the far-reaching good work of TLTA’s members and the army of professionals who make our industry’s success a priority.

Organizations typically look to past performance to identify future leaders. But an employee’s track record doesn’t tell you who might excel at things they haven’t done before, nor does it identify early-career high potentials or people who haven’t had equitable access to mentoring, sponsorship, development, and advancement opportunities. The authors of this article have developed a model for predicting leadership potential that’s grounded not in achievements but in three observable, measurable behaviors: cognitive quotient, drive quotient, and emotional quotient. They outline the telltale behaviors in each area, and explain how managers can coach employees to develop and refine their skills.

Texas Title Industry Connects With Congressional Delegation During ALTA's Advocacy Summit in D.C. Last Week
TLTA members and staff traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in ALTA's Advocacy Summit May 16-18, attending nine meetings with members of the Texas congressional delegation and their staffs.
The following Texas title professionals participated as part of TLTA's delegation: John Bruce, Joe Grealish, Troy Greenamyre, Chad Hansen, Jack Rattikin III, Marilyn De Luna, Brian Pitman, Tara Smith, Mary Thomas, John Updegraff and KC West. We are grateful for this outstanding team of industry advocates.

TLTA's delegation met with members and staff from the following congressional offices: Sen. Ted Cruz and Reps. Pat Fallon, Jake Ellzey, Veronica Escobar, Beth Van Duyne, Kay Granger, Austin Pfluger, Jodey Arrington, and Chip Roy.
They were all good, productive meetings, and the Texas title industry delegation reports positive feedback on our industry's comments and suggestions related to CFPB, FinCEN, RON and more.

Shaddock National Holdings Hires Matt McBride as VP of Risk Management & Compliance, Promotes Elizabeth Daniel as New President of Continental Title
Shaddock National Holdings announced they've hired Matt McBride as their Vice President of Risk Management and Compliance. McBride, President of Continental Title Company, a Shaddock National Holdings company, started Continental Title 21 years ago. He will step away from his current role and Elizabeth Daniel, current COO of Continental Title Company, will take over as President effective June 1.

Ray Reece Retires as CFO from First National Title Insurance Company, Brent Scheer Serves as New CFO
First National Title Insurance Company (FNTI) announces the retirement of its CFO, Raymond Reece. Reece has served his current role since FNTI was created in 2012. Reece will step down effective May 31. Brent Scheer will take over as CFO.
