Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will join us during the opening session Aug. 9 to deliver welcoming remarks and provide insight on what Texas and our state's business community can expect to see moving forward.

Annual Agent Section Business Meeting
Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2:45 p.m.
Agent Section Chair Paul R. Rodriguez has scheduled an Agent Section business meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 2:45 p.m. The meeting will be held at the brand-new Kalahari Resort in Round Rock in conjunction with TLTA's Annual Conference and Business Meeting. It is anticipated that the meeting will not last longer than 30 minutes. All TLTA members employed by independent title agents are encouraged to attend and participate in this meeting during which we will elect officers and conduct any other necessary business.
Annual Underwriter Section Business Meeting

Underwriter Section Chair Heidi E. Junge has scheduled an Underwriter Section business meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 2:45 p.m. The meeting will be held at the brand-new Kalahari Resort in Round Rock in conjunction with TLTA's Annual Conference and Business Meeting. It is anticipated that the meeting will not last longer than 30 minutes. All TLTA members employed by title insurance underwriting companies, underwriter affiliated agents and direct operations are encouraged to attend and participate in this meeting during which we will elect officers and conduct any other necessary business.

Longtime TLTA Legislative Counsel Allen Place Named Lawyer of the Year
Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association | June 21, 2021
Longtime TLTA legislative counsel Allen D. Place, Jr. of Gatesville was recently named Percy Foreman Lawyer of the Year by the Texas Criminal Defense Attorneys Association. In addition to serving as TLTA’s lobbyist since 2000, Allen serves as legislative counsel for TCDLA.
TCDLA is a statewide professional membership organization of more than 3,400 members founded in 1971. For over 50 years it has provided resources and training for criminal defense lawyers across Texas. The Percy Foreman Lawyer of the Year Award honors an individual attorney who has provided outstanding legal representation. The award is named after Percy Foreman, renowned criminal defense lawyer and TCDLA Charter Member who served almost 60 years as an attorney.
"This is wonderful and well-deserved recognition for a man of the utmost integrity and professionalism, not to mention just the nicest guy on the planet," said TLTA Executive Vice President and CEO Leslie Midgley. "TLTA is lucky to have him on our team and as part of our family."

As part of TLTA's mission to help develop the next generation of title industry leaders, we are hosting the Alex H. Halff Leadership Academy Nov. 8-9, 2021, in Austin. We hope you'll apply or encourage a promising young title professional to submit an application.

First American Acquires Texas’ Georgetown Title
Title insurance provider First American Financial Corporation announced the acquisition of Texas-based Georgetown Title, a company with roots planted in the Lone Star State over 125 years ago.
Georgetown Title will become part of the direct operations of First American’s largest subsidiary, First American Title Insurance Company, the company said in a press statement.

Allegiance Title Company Merges With FirsTitle
In a recent merger, Dallas-based Allegiance Title Company and Tulsa-based FirsTitle have joined forces to create a new holding company, AllFirst.
Allegiance has 22 locations throughout Texas that span across the Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston Metro areas. FirsTitle has 27 locations throughout Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas. The companies together will have close to 500 employees and a total of 49 offices serving the three-state area.

In Memoriam
Naomi Allen
November 18, 1939 – April 29, 2021
Naomi Allen, our friend and long-time title industry professional, passed away on April 29, 2021. Naomi was born on November 18, 1939 in Spiro, Oklahoma. After graduating high school, she moved to Denton, Texas where she attended TWU and began her title career at the Jagoe Abstract Company. This was the beginning of her impressive 53-year career in the title industry.
While at Jagoe, she learned the nuts and bolts of the title business and performed every function.
Stewart Title later acquired Jagoe Abstract Company and Naomi served as president and manager of Stewart Title of Denton for many years. Under her leadership, the company was acknowledged year after year, by Stewart Title Guaranty Company, for meeting and exceeding top performance goals.

Tamra Wilson
July 31, 1969 - April 7, 2021
Tamra Wilson was born on July 31, 1969 in Grand Prairie, TX to Carlton and Vickey Fishback. On February 17, 1995, she married John Adams Wilson. They raised three sons, Ivan, Alex and Everett, and two stepchildren, Drew and Dorothy Wilson.
Tamra worked at Longhorn Title Company in Georgetown for 29 years beginning as a receptionist and held the position of Vice President and Senior Escrow Officer at the time of her passing. She loved her job, her coworkers, her customers, her builders and her realtors more than anyone can imagine.
