CFPB to Host Public Hearing on Combined Mortgage Disclosure Rule

Rule Release Could Possibly Coincide with Nov. 20 Hearing
Last week, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) announced they will host a field hearing in Boston, MA, on the combined mortgage disclosures rulemaking, which is expected soon. The hearing will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. CST. According to the American Land Title Association, the CFPB typically uses these events to announce the release of a new rule or a new project. The hearing will feature remarks from CFPB Director Richard Cordray, as well as testimony from consumer groups, industry representatives and members of the public. TLTA will provide a link to the live hearing on the morning of Nov. 20 in this newsletter.

Texas Voters Approve Nine Constitutional Amendments

Texas voters approved a $2 billion draft from the state's Rainy Day Fund to finance water projects in the fast-growing, drought-plagued state Tuesday night, along with eight other amendments to the state's constitution. That amendment, Proposition 6 on the ballot, had by far the highest profile of the nine proposals. It will move the money from the state's savings account into a revolving account to provide public entities with low-cost loans for water supply and conservation projects. Read More »



Former Title Company Owner Wins Virginia Governors Race

Terry McAuliffe narrowly won the Virginia governor's race Tuesday, defeating Republican Ken Cuccinelli II by piling up votes in parts of the state hit hard by last month's federal government shutdown. After acidly negative campaigns by both candidates, McAuliffe — a former Democratic National Committee chairman and legendary political fundraiser who has never held elective office — took large majorities in Virginia's population centers, especially the Washington suburbs and Hampton Roads.
