Pittman Article Receives Positive Attention for Title Insurance
TLTA issued a response to an article about title insurance that ran earlier this month in the Austin American-Statesman and several other news outlets, and we are pleased the Statesman ran our op-ed on Saturday, May 11. The positive article, under the byline of TLTA President Randy Pittman, featured the headline, “Texas Title Insurance System One of Most Effective in U.S.” and ran on Page A11 of the Statesman’s Saturday print edition.
TLTA also added a new area to www.tlta.com that includes resources and more information about title insurance, as well as a copy of our op-ed article. If you have any questions, please email us at

TLTA-Sponsored Legislation Awaiting Approval
With only 11 days left, we are pleased with the progress of TLTA-sponsored legislation so far this session. HB 2795, which would provide for a more efficient procedure to address a default by a deceased borrower, passed out of a Senate Committee Hearing and will be a position for consideration on the floor.
HB 1913, which would provide for the ability of tax assessor collectors to waive certain interest and penalties related to ad valorem taxes, was approved by the Senate Finance Committee and Subcommittee on Fiscal Matters, and is now awaiting approval by the full Senate.
Correction Instrument Legislation Sent to the Governor
TLTA-sponsored legislation to clarify that the date of a correction instrument relates back to the original filing date passed the House and Senate and was sent to the Governor. This legislation would also provide the clear ability to treat an inadvertently omitted attachment as a nonmaterial correction.
