Fannie, Freddie to Allow Debt Cuts for Foreclosed Borrowers

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will let borrowers who have gone through foreclosure buy back their homes at market price. This change comes after a recent announcement by the Federal Housing Finance Agency. The FHFA says this is a way for those who owe more than their homes are worth to cut their mortgage debt.

Will Rising Interest Rates Choke Off Housing Recovery?

Despite an expected rise in interest rates and home prices over the next two years housing will be affordable. A study by Capital Economics goes as far as to say housing will actually be a little undervalued. Economists are estimating that the Federal Reserve will start raising interest rates in early 2015.

Mortgage Lenders Set to Relax Standards

Some of the largest U.S mortgage lenders are preparing to further ease standards for borrowers after the release of new guidelines this month from mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The new guidelines went into effect this week. The guidelines resulted from an agreement meant to clarify when lenders would be penalized for making mistakes on mortgages the sell to Fannie and Freddie. Relaxing the standards could mean a real boost in people being approved for mortgages.
