Election Day Breakdown

Last night was the culmination of the historic turnover that began with several retirements and many contested primaries. Every major statewide office has a new office holder. There will be 26 new House members, and eight new Senate members in 2015.  Three of those new Texas House members are TLTA members, Rodney Anderson (HD-105), John Wray (HD-10), and Andrew Murr (HD-53). Congratulations to our industry friends on their victories and we look forward to working with them.

Republicans have seized control of the U.S. Senate for the first time since 2006, and it was no different here in Texas.  All statewide races were won by Republicans including the Governor’s race where Greg Abbott took nearly 60% of the vote. Texas has an all-new slate of statewide office holders including the offices of Governor, Greg Abbott; Lt. Governor,  Dan Patrick; Attorney General,  Ken Paxton; Comptroller, Glen Hegar, Land Commissioner; Ag Commissioner, Sid Miller; and Land Commissioner, George P. Bush.

The GOP continues to occupy 26 of the 27 elected statewide offices.

Last night, the GOP extended its winning streak to 116 straight victories in statewide elections.  The Senate will have 19 Republicans & 11 Democrats and 1 vacancy (Hegar) One seat, SD10 (Davis), flipped to the Republicans last night. The House will have 98 Republicans & 52 Democrats.  Three seats — HD23 (Eiland open seat), HD117 (Cortez) and HD144 (Perez) — flipped to the Republicans last night.
The Texas Congressional delegation will sit at 25 Republicans and 11 Democrats
One seat, CD23 (Gallego), flipped to the Republicans last night with the election of Will Hurd.

However, it appears that there were only five truly competitive races last night in Texas at both the state and federal level where the winner was from the opposite party of the incumbents - one congressional seat, three state house seats and one state senate seat.
