Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee Holds QM Hearing

The Consumer Financial Protection Board's (CFPB) Qualified Mortgage (QM) rule is going to constrict access to mortgage credit and possibly stall housing, and members of Congress and mortgage industry leaders want a lot more flexibility in dealing with the CFPB's regulations that went into effect Jan. 10. That was the word from the House Financial Services Committee's subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit's hearing on Tuesday. Subcommittee Chair Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) said that legislators want to establish what to watch for over the coming months so that they can take action sooner rather than later, in case some of the worst predictions come int to fruition. 1 Hour Ethics Course Now Required for All Escrow Officers

Escrow officers renewing their licenses must now have 1 hour of ethics continuing education credit to comply with the new TDI requirements. Effective with the new TDI rule changes is a requirement that of the 10 hours of continuing education escrow officers must complete every two years, 1 hour must be on ethics. Therefore, at their next license renewal, all escrow officers will be required to have completed this new continuing education component.

TDI Adopts 2014 Rates for Maintenance Fees and Exam Assessments

Assessments and Fees are Paid by Underwriters
The Texas Department of Insurance recently adopted amendments to the Texas Administrative Code that address the 2014 assessment of maintenance taxes and fees imposed by the Texas Insurance Code and the 2014 assessments to cover the expenses to examine domestic and foreign insurance companies.
