Statewide Trade Association Event
June 22, 2022
AUSTIN – The Texas Land Title Association (TLTA), one of the state’s
oldest trade associations, recently presented John Martin of El Paso with
the esteemed Title Person of the Year Award during TLTA’s Annual
Conference and Business Meeting in Fort Worth. Martin is President of
Lone Star Title Company of El Paso. The Title Person of the Year award is
TLTA’s highest honor, recognizing significant and longtime contributions
to the title insurance industry and the association.
“John Martin has served TLTA as a volunteer in various capacities over
many years,” said Leslie Midgley, Executive Vice President and CEO of
TLTA, “but it was during his tenure as TLTA’s president in 2018 that his
leadership and passion for our industry carried us through a very
challenging time. He has earned our industry’s deepest respect and
gratitude, and he has generated a legacy of leadership that will endure.”
During Martin’s years of service to TLTA, he has played key roles on
critical committees, served as a TLTPAC Board member, and was
president of TLTA 2018-19. He currently serves on the Nominating
Committee, and is one of TLTA’s Local Legislative Liaisons, who help
maintain effective lines of communication with the lawmakers who
oversee Texas’ regulated title insurance industry. He also serves as the
agent representative on the Texas Title Insurance Guaranty Association
Board of Directors.
Martin’s title insurance industry career began in 1985, and in 1999 he
founded Lone Star Title Company of El Paso, Inc. In 2007, his title industry
interests grew when he founded Camino Real Abstract and Title. And in
February 2018, Martin and his son purchased Hale County Abstract & Title
Company, L.P., further expanding the family’s industry investments.
Martin is married to his wife Shelly of 36 years. Together they have three
grown children, Susan, Luke and Marshall – all of whom work in the
family’s title insurance businesses. He graduated from Baylor University in
1985 with a degree in Real Estate and Finance.
