Outstanding Legislator Award From
Statewide Trade Association
June 27, 2022
AUSTIN – The Texas Land Title Association (TLTA), one of the state’s
oldest trade associations, honored state Sen. Royce West (D-Dallas) with
an Outstanding Legislator Award during TLTA’s Annual Conference and
Business Meeting in Fort Worth.
“Sen. West filed and led the Senate’s work on Senate Bill 30, the racial
covenants removal legislation passed by the Texas Legislature last
session,” said Leslie Midgley, Executive Vice President and CEO of TLTA.
“The existent of racial covenants is a subject that has created a great
concern for the title industry for many years. Sen. West worked with
TLTA and other stakeholders on a solution that would address and help
remedy these historical scars in our land records while maintaining the
integrity of those records. Senator West has been a stalwart for a healthy
and strong real estate economy, and all Texans are fortunate to have his
talent and leadership in the Capitol.”
State Rep. Jeff Leach, who sponsored SB 30 in the Texas House of
Representatives, honored Senator West the day of the bill’s passage with
an amendment to name the bill the “Senator West Act.”
Sen. West was first elected to the Texas Senate in November 1992.
During his tenure, he has been named by Texas Monthly one of the 25
most powerful people in Texas politics, was selected for the magazine's
biennial “Ten Best Legislators in Texas” list, and has twice been named as
an “Honorable Mention.” Senator West has also received mention on the
Associated Press' “Movers and Shakers” list, as well as the Texas Insider's
"Best Legislators" list.
Senator West is Vice Chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee
and is a member of Senate committees on Education, Finance, and
Transportation.
