TDI to Announce Outcome of Rate Review During Public Hearing Tomorrow, Feb. 6

The Texas Department of Insurance held a basic premium rate hearing Jan. 23. Learn more about the
ongoing rate review process here.
TDI Commissioner Brown will announce a decision in a public hearing at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, in Room 2.034 of the Barbara Jordan Building, 1601 Congress Ave., Austin, Texas 78701.
TLTA's team will continue to be present and active at this hearing. All interested industry members are invited to attend. For those not in attendance, we will announce the decision shortly after the hearing.
New Acting Director of CFPB Freezes Most CFPB Work Upon Taking Control of Agency

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has shut down a wide variety of operations inside the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in his new role as acting director.
Bessent ordered the CFPB to stop all rulemaking, communications, litigation, and other activities, according to a Monday email to staff obtained by Bloomberg Law.
Bessent took over the CFPB as acting director after President Donald Trump fired Biden-era Director Rohit Chopra.

During his State of the State Address on Sunday, Gov. Abbott named seven emergency items for the 89th Texas Legislature. Under the state’s constitution, lawmakers cannot pass bills during the first 60 days of a legislative session, unless the governor declares the issue covered in the bill an emergency item. Following are the seven items Gov. Abbottt named emergency items for the 89th Session (note: the governor may expand his list of emergency items at any time): Property Tax Relief Texas Cyber Command Bail Reform School Choice Expanding Career Training Teacher Pay Water Infrastructure Investment

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Jackson. A past TLTA Board Member and active volunteer, Jack’s contributions left a lasting impact on our industry, and he will be greatly missed by his industry friends and colleagues.

ALTA: Trump Administration Should Hit the Brakes on Title Insurance Waiver Pilot Program

In the final days of the Biden administration, officials had several policy decisions to make as the president worked to cement his legacy, including whether to move forward with the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s (FHFA) title insurance waiver pilot program. The program would waive title insurance requirements for certain Fannie Mae federally backed mortgage loans. Both Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill previously expressed concern that the program would undermine the protection title insurance provides.

Gov. Abbott has appointed James Brady and Joe Christian to the Manufactured Housing Board for terms set to expire on January 31, 2031. The Board regulates the manufactured housing industry in Texas.
