TDI Issues Call for 2022 Agent Statistical Data; Responses Due No Later Than Aug. 21

The Texas Department of Insurance issued a
call for agent statistical data on Jun. 29 to each agency in Texas in accordance with Texas Insurance Code §2703.153, which requires each title insurance company and title insurance agent engaged in the business of title insurance in Texas to annually submit certain data to TDI. TDI uses this data to set title insurance premium rates.
Please note that this call is for data collected during calendar year 2022. You must respond to this data call using the
provided instructions and forms no later than Aug. 21, 2023.

ALTA Provides Comments on FHFA Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Fair Lending, Fair Housing, and Equitable Housing Finance Plans

Last week ALTA submitted comments on a proposed rule by FHFA that would formalize many of the agency’s existing practices and programs regarding fair housing and fair lending oversight of its regulated entities.
ALTA's letter included comments on Fannie Mae's reported title waiver proposal, as well as the GSE's promotion of unregulated title insurance alternatives.

ICYMI: Gov. Abbott Calls Second Special Session on Property Taxes

The first special session of the 88th Texas Legislature ended yesterday without final passage of bills addressing the items listed on Gov. Abbott's call. The governor responded by calling a second special session that started yesterday, June 27 at 3 p.m.
Special Session 2 agenda items:
ELIMINATING A PROPERTY TAX IN TEXAS: Legislation to put Texas on a pathway to eliminate school district maintenance and operations property taxes.
LASTING PROPERTY TAX RATE CUTS: Legislation to cut property tax rates solely by reducing the school district maximum compressed tax rate in order to provide lasting property-tax relief for Texas taxpayers.
