Attention Title Agents: ALTA Proposes Substantive Changes to Their Best Practices That Could Affect You

The American Land Title Association (ALTA) last week announced proposed revisions for their Best Practices Framework. TLTA strongly recommends that you review these extensive proposed changes and provide comments by the September 1 deadline if you have concerns. 
 
Comments on the proposed changes are due no later than Sept. 1, 2022.

ALTA’s announcement last week stated that additional documents will be revised later in the process after the completion of these ALTA Best Practice Framework changes, including revisions to the Best Practices Assessment Procedures.
  
It’s expected ALTA’s Board of Governors will review the proposed changes in October. Final release of the complete Best Practices Framework is expected to occur early 2023.

Comments on TREC Form Revisions Generated by TREC Broker-Lawyer Committee Due Sept. 26

 The Texas Real Estate Commission at its August meeting proposed form revisions recommended by the Texas Real Estate Broker-Lawyer Committee. You can comment on these proposed changes until September 26 using the online comment tool, emailing [email protected], or via mail to General Counsel, Texas Real Estate Commission, P.O. Box 12188, Austin, Texas 78711-2188. These proposed revisions and rules will be up for adoption at the next TREC Meeting on November 7.

General Update on TREC Meeting Aug. 8

 The Texas Real Estate Commission met August 8, 2022. The Commission adopted the new Landlord’s Floodplain and Flood Notice (TREC 54-0) form and revisions to the Seller’s Temporary Residential Lease (TREC 15-6) and the Buyer’s Temporary Residential Lease (TREC 16-6) forms, as well as non-substantive rule changes from the agency’s quadrennial rule review. Wells Fargo Plans Major Retreat From Mortgage Business It Long Dominated

Wells Fargo & Co. plans to shrink its vast mortgage empire, which once churned out one of every three home loans in the US and for a time made the bank the most valuable in the nation.

No longer committed to ranking No. 1 in the business, Wells Fargo’s leadership is preparing a retreat that will probably start with the bank’s ties to outside mortgage firms that generated roughly a third of its $205 billion in new home loans last year, according to people with knowledge of the decision.
