Texas Election Update: John Lujan Wins Special Election Runoff for HD 118 in San Antonio; Texans Appear to Have Approved All 8 Constitutional Amendments on the Ballot

In a special election runoff yesterday for Texas House District 118 in San Antonio, John Lujan beat Frank Ramirez. Lujan will replace former state Rep. Leo Pacheco, who resigned earlier this year.

Additionally, Texas voters appear to have approved all eight of the constitutional amendments on the ballot yesterday, including two amendments related to special homestead exemptions. See how Texans voted on the constitutional amendments here.   
 
Although the Texas Secretary of State's Office has not declared the results of yesterday's elections final yet, the votes from 100% of counties and polling locations have been reported.

FinCEN Renews Real Estate Geographic Targeting Orders for Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Other Metropolitan Areas Outside of Texas

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced the renewal of its Geographic Targeting Orders (GTOs) that require U.S. title insurance companies to identify the natural persons behind shell companies used in all-cash purchases of residential real estate.  The purchase amount threshold remains $300,000 for each covered metropolitan area.

The Texas Supreme Court issued final opinions in two cases for which TLTA submitted amicus letters: 
  • Concho Resources, inc. et al. v. Marsha Ellison, d/b/a/ Ellison Lease Operating
  • Broadway Nat’l Bank v. Yates Energy Corp.
