The Texas Legislature completed their 87th Regular Session in May, and new laws approved by legislators that may impact your operations will be effective Sept. 1. Additionally, among the legislation passed this session of which you should be aware, there are a handful of new laws that were effective immediately after they passed and others that will be effective in the months ahead. Editor's Note: Please be aware that the Texas Legislature is currently navigating the 2nd Called Session of the 87th Texas Legislature, and more special sessions are expected in the weeks and months ahead as lawmakers work on redistricting and other special issues called by Gov. Greg Abbott. While the issues important to our industry are not currently in play during these special sessions, we remain watchful and will alert you if there are legislative developments during the special sessions of which you should be aware.
FHFA Proposes Ambitious Housing Goals for GSEs

The Biden administration will use the strongest tool in its toolkit to increase minority homeownership: The Federal Housing Finance Agency.
The FHFA on Wednesday
proposed new affordable housing goals for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, goals that would require it to “responsibly promote equitable access to affordable housing that reaches low- and moderate-income families, minority communities, rural areas, and other underserved populations.”
The federal regulator said that for 2022 through 2024, it is proposing two new single-family home purchase subgoals to replace the existing low-income areas subgoal: One new subgoal targets low-income neighborhoods, while the other targets minority communities.
