TLTA Sends Letters Urging Congressional Fix for TRID "Simultaneous Issue" Problem

James Hyland, Esq., TLTA Federal Legislative Counsel | April 17, 2018
Congress is currently considering S. 2155, a bill to provide regulatory relief for community banks. The title industry continues to push for legislation addressing TRID that would allow for the correct reporting of the cost of owners' and lenders’ title policies when issued simultaneously. This has been a long-running issue with how the CFPB rules require that simultaneous policies be priced on TRID forms.

This week, TLTA President Chris Phillips and TLTA Executive Vice President and CEO Leslie Midgley wrote to Chairman Hensarling, encouraging the House to add the TRID Reform bill to the Senate regulatory relief legislation. They also wrote to Sens. Cornyn and Cruz supporting that position. In the alternative, they have also asked the senators to consider passing H.R. 5078, the TRID Reform Act, as a free-standing bill, considering it passed by voice vote in the House, indicating broad bi-partisan support.
