Dallas County Issues Shelter-In-Place Order Effective Monday, March 23 at Midnight
Essential Services Excluded From Restrictions on Business Operations
March 22, 2020
Dallas County issued a countywide shelter-in-place order today, ordering all residents to stay in their homes unless engaged in essential activities. The order will be effective at midnight on Monday, March 23,and will continue until Friday, April 3.
Under County Judge Clay Jenkins' order, work necessary to the operations and maintenance of the 16 essential critical infrastructure sectors as identified by the National Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA)may remain open for business. CISA's definition of essential critical infrastructure includes insurance services and other financial institutions.
Title insurance is not specifically referenced in Dallas County's order. However, it is our understanding that title insurance is among the businesses excluded from the limitations imposed by Dallas County's order, as laid out in the paragraph above.
Furthermore, when similar orders have been enacted elsewhere in the country, the definition of essential services has included the title industry, and our industry has continued to operate accordingly in those jurisdictions.
As we learn more about the application of Dallas County's order as it relates to our industry, we will share that news with you.
